Default Is a Birth Doula really necessary?

I've been hearing this when I was pregnant but never really pushed through with it. I liked the idea but with the tons of challenges I've had with regards to my bf's addiction, financial difficulties and anxieties of a first time mum, I didn't go for it. I am incredibly thankful to my mum for being one of the greatest support system during my pregnancy and I'm thinking that doulas are of really big help to other who lacks emotional support during pregnancy and childbirth.

So my question is, are you going to have a birth doula in your next pregnancy? Do you have any ideas on how much they charge? Or do you want to be trained as one?

Cheers!

guess they are very essential if your mum and some of your closest family are not able to be present while you're birthing and also if you're a first time mum with a lot of anxieties.

As for me, they're helpful but I don't need one personally. Having one is a case-to-case basis.

Not really necessary. It's more of a personal choice.

Truly optional. Depends on the situation the mom is in.

It's a good idea but I don't think I would need one. My hubby, family especially mom and MIL are more than enough for me to get all the support I need.

It's very popular here in AUS and in NZ, but I prefer not to have one. But getting trained to be one is a good idea too.

No, I might not need one. But I guess it's particularly helpful if my mum is away or I don't have anyone to support me emotionally especially if I have a challenging pregnancy.

I think it's a great idea to have a birth doula. Who wouldn't want an extra physical and emotional support who will also give you extra information about pregnancy and childcare, right?

It's an ideal choice but it really depends on what your needs are. Before getting one, I suggest you study and research more about a birth doula, the fees etc. to know if you need one or if you want to be one.
