What is an HSG test?

My practitioner mentioned this during my last visit. I'll be having one next month. This is an X-ray test which will aid me in conceiving. Any ideas on this? Thanks!

Re: What is an HSG test?

HSG or hysterosalpingogram. Read on: SOURCE

During a hysterosalpingogram, a dye (contrast material) is put through a thin tube that is put through the vagina and into the uterus. Because the uterus and the fallopian tubes are hooked together, the dye will flow into the fallopian tubes. Pictures are taken using a steady beam of X-ray (fluoroscopy) as the dye passes through the uterus and fallopian tubes. The pictures can show problems such as an injury or abnormal structure of the uterus or fallopian tubes, or a blockage that would prevent an egg moving through a fallopian tube to the uterus. A blockage also could prevent sperm from moving into a fallopian tube and joining (fertilizing) an egg. A hysterosalpingogram also may find problems on the inside of the uterus that prevent a fertilized egg from attaching (implanting) to the uterine wall.

Hope this helps.
BTW, it's great that you'll be having this test. For sure, this will help you have a baby real soon. Good luck hun! :)

Never had one but all I know is that it's an X-Ray test that enables you to know the irregularities you have so you could rule them out immediately.

Nothing to worry about it, it's just that it may make you feel a little sore afterwards but nothing serious I believe. Good luck!

Thanks for these comments ladies, I'd probably undergo the test next month. Keep those posts coming so I'd get familiarized by it and not to feel so anxious by then!

Yup! Looks like you're not that used to getting sore! LOL. Kidding.
Yes, it's a post-procedure feeling resembling having a TVS.

It was effing painful!!! The worst part is, sadly, the other tube is blocked and my doctor gave us several options on how to rule this out. :( Laparoscopy is one of them. Scary.

So sad to hear that Fanny. But the good news is you've found out early and you're ready to have it ruled out. Have you had the Laparoscopy already?

Thanks Adalira. Yes, hubby and I are glad to know that this is treatable. I wasn't able to set up an appointment for a Laparoscopy which is earlier than September 28th so fingers crossed it'll turn out successfully.

Oh honey, good luck on the procedure. I'm glad that you're dealing with it this early. It's still a month from now but I know the anticipation kills you, but just relax and let nature take its course. God bless!

Good luck dear! I'm so proud of you of having the guts to deal with it at an early stage so as to conceive asap. I know you'll reap the fruits of your hard work soon. Take care!

So sad to learn about the findings but I'm hopeful everything will turn out fine. Good luck on the Lap dear.

Thanks for the kind words ladies! My Laparoscopy will be next week already. Having mixed emotions now but I know it's the right thing to do. I will be put under general anaesthesia. Dunno if I could survive the 8 hour fasting before the procedure too, ugh! But I hope and pray the blockage will be removed so I could conceive fast!

Hope the lap went well! It's funny that you may be able to face the procedure itself and worry more of not surviving the fasting part. Haha!

Just recovered from the procedure. The blockage in my fallopian tubes was removed but still, there's still a couple of small cysts and I'm taking meds for that. I'm hopeful we'll get through this. Thanks for the kind words!

I'm very glad to hear that it has been removed. I'm hopefull too that those cysts are just physiological and will be gone soon. Never give up Fanny, everything will be working slowly but surely. Hugs!

We're hoping that the treatment will work the soonest. Don't worry, you've got so much time ahead of you. Enjoy your time with your hubby and savor all the goodness of being a TTC. ;)

Re: What is an HSG test?

You're all so sweet, thanks for the encouraging comments! :) I'm feeling a bit down these days and I feel like just putting a halt on the medications I'm taking and just letting nature take its course. The effects make me feel sleepy and exhausted most of the time and it's like I wanna give up. Though I know it's not the right thing to do. :(
