Is the radiation from the microwave bad for me?

I'm quite worried if whether or not the radiation emitted from a microwave harmful to my unborn baby? Does this make sense? Or using a microwave is just fine?

I am still using microwave. I think it's ok as long as you don't stand in front of it.

If the microwave you're using is a little old then replace it with something new. The latest models of microwaves are safe. The old ones might have a leak or loose rubber so there may be radiation that'll come out so be extra careful.

Thanks ladies! I'm a bit curious as to how one could possibly live without microwave, especially when pregnant! :D But then the baby's safety as our top priority is given. That being said, and being curious again, are photocopiers harmful too?

Photocopiers? Xerox? Hmm, that I'm not sure of...

I've used microwave when I was pregnant and my kiddo is doing fine now. I guess be cautious when using the older models like what Dalinda has stated.

Yes, thanks ladies.
Back to my question, does the same thing go on photocopiers?

As much as possible, stay away from microwaves, copiers and those stuff that may emit high radiation. Call me old school but no matter how companies explain that their products are radiation-free, I still double check and get extremely careful in operating stuff around the house.

I'm still using microwave now that I'm pregnant and I think there's no harm in that. My mum says the same too.

I guess you'll be fine using microwave. Best to discuss about this issue with your OB too.

I guess it's ok unless you spend the whole day using the microwave :P

Of course you can hun, but (for precautionary measures) there are several things you need to do, like staying 12-14 inches away from the microwave when you need to use it. Read on...

It is hard to believe but true that the microwave oven you use to make food could be harmful to your unborn child, especially when the device is old or is wrongly used.

Tests have shown that microwaves emit harmful electromagnetic radiation which could harm embryos and could lead to miscarriage.
"Microwaves can be harmful if they are leaking radiation," says Dr Shivani Sachdev Gaur of Phoenix hospital.
The waves of a microwave oven can travel up to 12 cm, so it is harmful for a pregnant woman to stand near a microwave oven, especially if it is old and damaged, she says.

I agree with what Adalira has shared. Regardless if your microwave is of the latest type, you should at least stay away from it during pregnancy just to be on the safest side.

Oh, this is helpful. Thanks for sharing this one. I mean, I'm not afraid using the microwave now that I'm pregnant but it helps too to be extra careful. :)
