Male OB Gynecologist??

I had my pap smear the other day. I have my female gynecologist for 4 years and didn't expect that a male doctor will relieve for her as my female gyne was rushed to the ER due to hyperacidity that same day. The office kept on apologising for the inconvenience it has caused and asked me that they would give me a first priority in rescheduling my pap smear appointment. I just want the smear to be done asap as I've waited for a month for this appointment. I agreed. I took the plunge and swallowed all the slight awkwardness I felt with a male gynecologist. No biggie, I've had had 2 pregnancies and tons of check-ups before. To be honest, the male gyne is handsome and I think that added to the awkwardness, haha! :p I realised that in my current situation, I still feel a little shy when being "examined" by guy practitioners... Now I though how much more would a young and single woman?

Here's my question. Would you prefer a female OB, a male or you just don't care?

I'd opt for a female obstetrician. :)

I guess it depends if the Male doctor is cute or not. LOL.

In my case, no biggie if I'll be seen by a male doctor. But if there's an initial chance of choosing, female OB is my first option.

I won't mind having a male gynecologist... so long as he knows what he is doing and give a professional approach and doesn't look sleazy :P

Well Gaetana, you're right. Admit it or not there's a slight disparity between having an average looking obstetrician versus one that looks like Keanu Reeves or Josh Hartnett. LOL!

Oh, and as a response to the question, perhaps I'll be more comfortable with a female doctor.

Actually, I said "No" to this thread.
But if we're talking about the likes of Keanu Reeves and JUDE LAW. I'll take my statement back! ;)

I guess that, it would be perfectly understandable then! xD

Months have passed and I'd still say NO to this thread. I still feel a little uncomfortable having a male gynecologist. I know that they're professionals and I respect their craft but it the idea just doesn't soothe me.

I totally agree with you... even if the OB is dmn good looking... I don't think I'd feel comfy about having check ups, etc.

I had a male gynecologist before and didn't have any issues at all. They're all professionals and chances are I'm just one of those thousands of women he has taken cared of. I prefer credentials and experience over gender so this thing isn't much of a biggie for me.

I so agree. I had a female gynecologist before and with my most recent pregnancy, I had a male. I couldn't emphasize the fact that his experience, credibility and reputation are much more essential than my gender preference.

Well you've made a huge point upon saying that. Probably consider this in my 2nd pregnancy. But now that I'm still a TCC, I have a female doctor and will still have the same come I get pregnant.

You have a point emphasizing your choice of credentials over gender.

Not a problem with me... If the Gynecologist is a hottie, Then that would be a plus :p (oh you make my ovaries blush!) :D

LOL! If you're single then it's indeed not a biggie! Always ready to mingle as they say, so a hot male OB isn't an exclusion! :)

A hot male OB? Hmm, that's rare!
